Day 13 - Abyaneh to Esfahan

After a late breakfast we hit the road for Esfahan somewhat reluctantly as we had enjoyed our stay at this rather quaint hotel. The highway again proved excellent with a moderate amount of traffic and 4 lanes, sometimes 6 so sitting on 120 kms per hour was typical. Once we arrived in Esfahan however we began to experience some of the worst traffic since setting out and made worse with our rudimentary maps taken from the internet and saved as image files. We had arranged to meet our guide Maryam and for the next half an hour or more it was a case of repeated phone calls to establish our respective positions until we finally managed to meet. From there it was a simple case of following her to our hotel, the Sepahan. This proved to be a good choice and a pleasant place to stay for the next 3 days. After a couple of hours rest Maryam returned to take us to two of the famous bridges of Esfahan, the Khajeh bridge and the Si-O-Seh or 33 arches bridge. After returning to the hotel we set out on foot for the Abbasi hotel and Naqsh-e Jahan or Imam Square as it was still light. After tea in the coffeeshop of the Abbasi we visited the Square and the place was alive with people, absolutely buzzing. We ended up buying some typical Iranian painted dishes and then had dinner at one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever set eyes on, Bastani restaurant in the bazaar. After an enjoyable meal and again conversations with our neighbours we headed home through the bazaar - somewhat spooky but perfectly safe.
